You’re Going To Need Representation

(My work has a dress code that we’re required to comply with. I come in on my day off to pick up an order for my mother and am wearing a patterned tank top, shorts, and flip-flops, the exact opposite of what I would wear to come in to work. As I’m chatting with a coworker, a regular comes up to me.)

Regular: “You work here, right?”

Me: “Yes, but I’m not on the clock today.”

Regular: “Then I want to get a chair down so I can take a look at it.”

Coworker: “I can help you with that. [My Name] is just here as a customer today.”

Regular: *takes a look at both of us and how differently we’re dressed* “Why aren’t you working?”

Me: “It’s my day off. I just needed to pick something up for my mom.”

Regular: “Well, you’re not representing the store well.”

(She goes off with my coworker to get the chair while my manager finishes ringing up my mom’s order. The next day, I come into work in proper work attire.)

Manager: *teasing* “I’m glad you decided to be a good representative for the store today.”
